Fair warning, there is lots of flirting, banter, almost kisses, and several rolls of toilet paper. ENJOY!
The Rebel Summer Playlist
There were so many moments in this story that played out in my head like a scene from a movie. Dax’s seventies music became such a fun part of the book and even I became a semi-converted oldie’s fan—but just for SOME of the music. Sorry, Dad!

If seventies music isn’t your thing, but you’re curious about a few of the moments in the book that paired perfectly with the music…here are a few songs that are definitely worth listening to:
“Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Segar. This is the song playing when Ivy visited Dax to apologize right after the accident. It was the perfect introduction to Dax. The words and tune seem to transcend all time and became the song I listened to the most while washing dishes and plotting this book.
“You Give Love a Bad Name” by Bon Jovi. This is actually, Ivy’s song, but it fits the storyline in a fun way. And it totally seemed like a song Dax would secretly love playing in his shop.
“Bad Moon Rising” by Creedence Clearwater Revival. This became the perfect song while a despondent Ivy contemplated doing Dax’s list.
“I am I said” by Neal Diamond. I didn’t name this song in the book, but it was the song about loneliness playing just before Ivy invited Dax to play Volleyball.
“Spirit in the Sky” by Norman Greenbaum. When Ivy discovers Dax has a car on the island, the first ten seconds of this song perfectly captures the mood.
“Sweet Caroline” by Neal Diamond. Neal Diamond is a national treasure. That is all.
“Keep Your Hands to Yourself” by The Georgia Satellites. My dad had me listen to this one, and I knew it would be the perfect, fun song to end the book.
